REFRIGERATED COLD PLATEThe Alloy Casting Cold Plate unit is designed for assisting the radiation oncology specialist in preparing fast, uniform castings out of low-temperature, lead-based, shielding alloys.

A mold is first made of polystyrene oncology foam (such as MED-TEC’s Flat-Foam™), using one of several foam cutters, that are also available from MED-TEC, which allow the Flat-Foam™ to be cut along a contour that is determined by the patient’s specific tumor-treatment region.

The molten shielding alloy is then poured from an alloy melter* into the polystyrene mold, which rests on the cold plate. The cold plate helps the molten shielding alloy to cool and solidify, quickly and uniformly.

The basic Alloy Casting Cold Plate unit consists of a high thermal-conductivity cold plate connected to, and physically mounted onto, a refrigerated chiller unit. Depending on the model series, it may also include an integrally-mounted MT-800D-type alloy melter and/or a cold-plate vibrating mechanism.

* Some Alloy Casting Cold Plate models come with their own alloy melter units.
